Rockin Band

I posted a song of The Waldos here before and everyone liked it. Here they are live at the Continental Divide, the NYC club that was where the rocker wing of the CBGB crowd repaired to in the late 80’s and early 90’s. The Waldos and The Senders and in general the spawn of Johnny Thunders played there a lot. I think it’s ballsy to even attempt Stand By Me and Tony Coiro nails it. I consider their album Rent Party to be one of the best albums of the 90’s. In this video, Walter Lure had broken a string and the band started without him. I like that. They couldn’t wait.

  1. Nice clip, I wish I woulda been there. But I disagree on Stand By Me. It is such a great song pretty much anyone can do it in any style and not mess it up. The Waldos do what they do with it really well, but it has been covered more than 400 times. Including by Cassius Clay.

  2. I remember the Cassius Clay – it might have been the first version I ever heard – and yeah, I know it’s been covered a lot, which is part of the problem. It’s damn hard to add something to the song, even if the something is running over it with a truck. Which The Waldos don’t quite do, they just keep threatening to.
