  1. 1) Who could argue with a little Chuck Berry, a Dick Dale, etc.? Sorta like The Cramps, but better (never liked The Cramps that much).

    2) Surely this makes me a racist, but I can’t help but thinking of the “woo-hoo, woo-hoo-hoo” band of chicks from “Kill Bill” and – my favorite video of all-time – Ted Lyons & His Cubs from “Ghost World.” The singer here is even wearing a Ted Lyons burglar mask, maybe in tribute to Ted Lyons?

    3) Why do all these bands seems like they should be playing in an Adam West “Batman” episode?

  2. It seems to me that a LOT of Japanese have this idealized picture of America’s Pop Art past, loving and completely unrealistic – and fun. Yes, I hadn’t thought of the Kill Bill connection but it’s definitely there.

I never thought much of The Cramps either, to me they came off like they were playing games, an exaggerated parody. Why play the music if you’re just making fun of it? Is irony worth that much? BTW, I came across the Stompin’ Riffraffs while looking for Patti Smith’s cover of “Endless Sleep,” perhaps the original of the rockabilly melodrama sub-genre. Patti’s version doesn’t seem to on youtube.
