Baby Driver

Just saw it tonight. The premise and previews seemed so dumb, but the reviews have been so fantastic, I could stay away no longer.

The flick is dominated by music and my favorite scenes are driven by Neat Neat Neat and this, interestingly enough, two of the few songs that play in their entirety.

I wanted very badly not to like Baby Driver, but stopped fighting and started enjoying probably a half-hour in (perhaps Neat Neat Neat is when I threw in the towel).

I never had this Focus album. Did any of you? I’m guessing it’s one of those that completely sucked besides the title track. Go Scandinavians! Go Thijs Van Leer!

  1. Hocus Pocus was pretty much solid alt FM fodder in the early 70’s and was a pretty good car tune along with Slow Ride and Radar Love. And, Thijs along with Jan Ackerman were the Swedish axe gods. Its a great cut.

What I don’t understand is shelling out maybe $50 (tix, popcorn, parking, assuming 2) to go to the movies with the idea, going in, that you were happy to spend the money on something you didn’t want to like..

i am neither a therapist nor an economist but that seems both stupid and a waste of money.

    • Movies that get overwhelmingly rave reviews from critics and audiences alike usually appeal to me despite preconceived notions I have coming in.

I was all alone on Friday night away on business, walked in full from eating beforehand and parking was free at a mall. The whole episode cost me $11 and change and was well worth it.

Unexpectedly hearing the opening bass line to “Neat Neat Neat” on a movie theater sound system is probably worth $9.

  2. Even if it is a buck, why would anyone pay to see something they planned on not enjoying?

And this negates any argument you ever have against anyone liking anything mainstream forever: “Movies that get overwhelmingly rave reviews from critics and audiences alike usually appeal to me despite preconceived notions I have coming in.”

You are clearly as mainstream as anyone i know of. Even if you don’t like the movies you see (brilliant, spending bucks again on what you knew was bad to begin with) I cannot remember the last time i read a review about much of anything save sometimes the Reader Reviews on the IMDB.

    Sheep…lol.
