Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, Talk to Me

I’m mystified by what genre this tune, and almost all of Johnny Lyon’s sides are. It’s some strand of soul, but different.

Wikipedia says:

I don’t know. In this one I hear more Mink Deville, but while Springsteen always manages to sound like the early 60s, this comes out of that idea, but is different.  I really like this song

  1. When I was in the dorm at Moravian College for two years in the late 1970s, there was a large contingent of Jersey guys there who obviously couldn’t find a college in their own state. They were OK, but pretty damn annoying. When they weren’t blasting Springsteen and doing Clarence Clemons mimes, they were blasting Southside Johnny and doing mimes of whomever his horn players were.

I hadn’t heard this song for almost 40 years, but I sure do remember it. It was kinda traumatic.
