Night Music: Animal Crackers, “Hooray for Captain Spaulding”

About a year ago my friend Lisa’s husband died. Tonight there was a memorial for him in the Great Hall at Cooper Union, where his friends and family talked about his especially vibrant life.

Not neglected was his love of movies and comedy. Oh, and the Marx Brothers, who so often combined the two.

Good night, Peter.

  1. I love the Marx Brothers films–at least the first half dozen, thought A Day at the Races–so much. Like Bringing Up Baby and Cassablanca, doesn’t matter how often they pop onto TCM. I am there.

    So, this is just wonderful.

And, next time you watch Animal Crackers, note that in the credits, there is Jeffrey Spaulding, but in the newspaper article announcing his return from Africa, he is Geoffrey Spaulding.
